Descriptions of Classes for Package Options.
Point & Paint (2 days/2 hours/day) – This course involves both mobile phone camera and painting techniques! Today, cell phone cameras are more popularly the camera of choice when taking formal and informal shots! In the first session, the student will learn special techniques for taking and editing one of a kind photos in the downtown area. The next session will focus on painting the photograph of their choice. The student leaves with a unique painting inspired by their own photograph!
Painting the Lowcountry: Watercolor for beginners (2 days/3 hours/day) – This course focuses on creating a piece of artwork that has a Lowcountry flare with the use of watercolors! The students will be able to emulate a painting provided by the instructor; however students are encouraged to paint what they desire. Teacher guidance and assistance will be provided for whatever route the student chooses. Students will leave with their own unique Lowcountry painting!
Mixed Media Collage: (2 days/2 hours/day) – This course focuses on mixed media painting and uses a variety of ink washes that are so prevalent in the Lowcountry. The student will leave with an abstract painting!
Stain Glass by the Sea (Beginners) (1 day/3 hours/day) – This course focuses on the fundamentals of stained glass and embedding objects (shells) into the glass. Students will leave with a 12x12 plate that they create!
Stained Glass by the Sea (Advanced) – This course is a build on our beginning stained glass class, or a class that experienced stained glass visitors would enjoy. Each student will leave with a piece of stained glass that is suitable for a window or hanging.
Batiking for Beginners (1 day/2 hours/day) – This course focuses on creating a batik fabric using a variety of inks and dyes! The teaching artist will instruct students on how to use wax resists, jaunting tools, and dye in order to create unique patterns on their fabric! Students are also given a history lesson about the origin of batiking. The students not only leave with a creative batik fabric but with the knowledge and skills to continue to do it at home!
Torch Painting (1 day/2 hours/day) – This class is for adults who want to exlore a different kid of art! Participants use a butane torch to create designs on metal. Alcohol inks are used to add a design on top of the flame painted metals. Hands on process with metals and oxidation. Students will leave with a metal piece that they’ve created!
Metal Jewelry Making (1 day/2 hours/day) – Cold Connections Metalsmithing, this class is for students who would like to learn the basics of cold connections in metals. Participants will learn how to hammer and stamp metal and use simple rivets to join components. Students will leave with own unique piece of jewelry!
Glass fusing (1 day/2 hours/day) – This is an introductory class on the basics of glass fusing. You will learn how to cut glass and assemble it into an artistic pattern that will be fused into an 8’ square dish that you will take home and use as décor or a sushi dish. Students will discuss different types of glass, safety, and science and potential of fused glass.
Sweet grass Basket Making (2 days/2.5 hours on 1st day/2.5 hours on 2nd day) – This course involves teaching students how to make sweet grass baskets from scratch! Students are handed individual pieces of grass, and other materials and taught the skills necessary to form a complete basket! Students leave with their own sweet grass basket!
